How to Recognise a Qualified Gas Engineer

This time of year is when we as a company see a rise in the number of people experiencing problems with their heating. If you have found this relates to you, you may want the support and advice of a gas engineer to ensure your heating and cooking appliances are all in full working order as the festive season looms. Unfortunately, it’s common this time of year to panic when disaster strikes, but this can lead to poor judgement in your call out choice – here, we discuss how to recognise a qualified heating engineer so you know your home is not only warm, but also safe.

Are they Gas Safe Registered?

This is the most obvious sign that your company of choice is qualified to deal with your gas heating systems as this is a legal requirement for anyone within the industry to have. Anyone who holds this qualification will have a registered ID card which should be carried with them at every job they attend. You may find they have other qualifications, but never become complacent if they can’t prove this particular registration.

Research Beforehand

To check your gas engineer is registered, use the Gas Safe website which allows you to search through and ensure your call out is legally able to work on your home. Recommendations may well be favourable, but always check their Gas Safe ID card before hand – they may be a family friend, but this doesn’t mean they are qualified for the job.

Using a company? Then research the website. This will highlight whether they claim to be Gas Safe registered and you can then check this via the same website as singular engineers. This will also allow you to see what work can be carried out and whether it matches your needs.
